The AJW Big Fun Band is a group of eight energetic adults, led by musical director John Damberg, who get together on Wednesday nights to share their love of jamming on a wide variety of music featuring improvisation. The group shares their good energy with their audiences at live performances. Karrie Pavish Anderson cold-brews her Alaskan soul songs from the challenges of living in a Hoth-like locale with no roads leading out, and no Starbucks within 300 air miles. Galena, Alaska is an unlikely place for an artist with an active touring career, yet Karrie thrives in this Koyukon hamlet and spins its stories into performances at festivals, clubs, pubs, churches, parks, charity events and the living rooms of her fans around North America and Europe. First time at Spenard Jazz Fest, we're excited to have her !

Anchorage Jazz Ensemble
The Anchorage Jazz Ensemble has a rich 40 year history of providing jazz to the Anchorage community. The 18 members of AJE perform a variety of big band music from the 40s swing era to the present. Members of the band are a diverse group, coming from all walks of life from throughout the Anchorage area. For four decades, they’ve been coming together once a week to enjoy the camaraderie of the big band jazz experience.

The John Damberg Latin Jazz Quintet is composed of John Damberg on marimba, vibes, steel drum & Latin percussion, Laura Koenig on flute, Mark Manners on guitar, Bob Andrews on bass, Cameron Cartland on drum set and Latin percussion. The ensemble’s repertoire features original music by noted Alaskan composers John Damberg and Mark Manners and arrangements of compositions by the Latin and Jazz Masters of the 20th Century.

Seward based Elite 9, named after a 1960's vacuum cleaner, does not suck ! On the contrary, invited back to SJF every year, this fun band led by the enigmatic father-daughter double act Daryl and Linnea Hollingsworth (bass and vocals) the quintet from Resurrection Bay never ceases to please. Power house jazz with a twist.
